Background

Mayer Brown’s Hong Kong office is home to one of the largest and longest-established law firms in Hong Kong. Conveniently located they have approximately 200 lawyers based in Hong Kong, specialising in various industries. they provide clients with a full and integrated range of legal services.

Need

The participant on one of our open courses was looking for assertiveness development in working with clients and colleagues. Senior colleagues and business clients require all lawyers in any law firm to be assertive.

Activity

The workshop focussed on providing skill development focussed on needs. We used the ITD Work Styles Model to look at personality drivers of behaviours and used practical scenarios as examples. The agneda included:

  • The need to be assertive
  • What is assertive behaviour in a law firm.
  • The ITD Work Styles Model.
  • How to develop confidence.
  • What colleagues are looking for and how this requires assertiveness.
  • Assertive language.
  • Practise scenarios.
  • Behavioural action planning using our unique tool.

Outcomes

  • Clear ideas on how to be assertive.
  • Definitions of assertive behaviour in a law firm.
  • Specific actions to implement in the work place.
