diversity & inclusion training

Diversity & Inclusion Training

Our Diversity & Inclusion training is practical and leads to actions which can help to develop your approach in both these areas.

Diversity and inclusion are connected but different concepts. Diversity describes the representation or make-up of the people in an organisation. Typically, diversity implies ethnicity, gender, age and other characteristics. But it can also include personality, approach to work and creativity.

Inclusion is partly about how well the contributions and perspectives of people in an organisation are valued and integrated into an environment. One useful definition includes, “the degree to which everyone is treated fairly and respectfully, have equal access to opportunities and resources, and can contribute fully to the organization’s success.”

This session explores these concepts and introduces a range of practical ideas for developing diversity and increasing inclusion.

Training Agenda

The following gives an overview to the agenda for our diversity & inclusion training. This is adapted to suit your needs and we insert examples and scenarios which are relevant to your organisation.

What is Diversity & Inclusion?

There are a variety of definitions that are useful in gaining a better understanding of diversity & inclusion. A number of these are introduced and reflected on for their meaning and implications.

Why does it matter from a human perspective & business viewpoint?

A moments reflection on these two areas leads us to realise how important they are. A comment we often hear, is to do this from a humanity perspective, in trying to ensure the team reflects the diversity of society. But also from an organisational perspective. Research shows that those organisations which improve diversity, also improve performance.

Inclusion is often assumed, in that equal opportunity in all its forms, happens automatically. Research shows this is not the case. This workshop helps to get the point across that inclusion takes effort and action.

Assessing Diversity

Our diversity assessment methodology gives you a simple way to look within your organisation. This can be at a team level, departmental, or larger viewpoint. Discussing this with your colleagues and the trainer in small groups, helps to reflect on the reality in your team. This means you get a good first look at your team’s diversity and how it might be developed.

Diversity actions

From the assessment you have made, we suggest a variety of possible actions you can take to develop the diversity of your team. These are discussed in small groups, to review their practicality amd impact.

Assessing Inclusion

The assessment of inclusion often results in a number of questions to be asked. This can be carried out prior to the session as a pre-workshop task. During the training we help you to reflect on the level of inclusion in your team, and identify areas where there could be improvement.

Inclusion Actions

The questions we use to assess inclusion lead directly to a wide range of actions you can look at to develop inclusion. Some of these can be quite simple, others will need more organisational effort. These actions are discussed and reviewed in small groups.

Workshop Actions

At the close of the session individuals suggest their overall actions from the training.
