Developing Confidence in Communication
This Developing Confidence in Communication workshop looks at developing awareness and actions for more confident communication. When communicating with lawyers at any level, it can be a challenge working with people who are confident, very articulate and often working under time pressure.
Developing confidence means considering how we respond to these challenges in order to give the service the firm expects. The workshop explores the subject from a behavioural change perspective. What kind of behaviours would we like to display? What does assertiveness in a law firm mean? How do we develop confidence in challenging situations?
The workshop ends with specific actions based on our behavioural change action model.
Participants
Anyone working in a law firm that wants to develop their confidence in communicating with colleagues, lawyers or external agents.
Duration
The Developing Confidence in Communication workshop can be run as a 2-hour up to full day session.
Developing Confidence in Communication Agenda
The specific agenda for this training is developed around the needs of the client. The fundamental building blocks include the following:
- Challenges with communicating in a law firm.
- Expectations of our colleagues.
- The differences of assertive communication in a law firm.
- The impact of personality using the ITD Work Styles Model.
- Scenarios discussion.
- What does confident communication look like.
- Developing confidence; a behavioural science approach.
- Personal actions with input from the trainer.
Outcomes
Each participant discusses their challenges with communicating confidently and the specific context for these challenges. From this context ideas are reviewed, moving on to tailored action planning. This means each person leaves the session with actions they can implement immediately.
By the end of the workshop participants will have:
- Reviewed the team’s approach to communicating with internal clients.
- Considered their own communication within the context of expectations, assertion and work style.
- Reflected on methods for developing confidence in communication.
- Agreed personal actions, based on our behavioural change action model.

The session was light and engaging, providing useful actionable tips that are very easy to remember for the next time I need to do a virtual presentation. Really enjoyed the positive atmosphere and the engagement opportunities with the presenter (Martin Chapman) and the team. I would enjoy having a follow up session to focus on practice.
Great course for anyone managing people
I attended the People Management Training yesterday and found it incredibly useful. The session provided valuable insights into understanding not only my own management style but also how to approach managing staff more effectively. I learned a lot about leveraging individual skills and personality traits to build stronger, more cohesive teams. The training offered practical strategies that I can immediately implement to foster better communication and collaboration. I am looking forward to attending further sessions and building on what I have learned already. Highly recommended for anyone looking to improve their leadership skills!
