Here is a tip for those who find delegation a challenge. For those who think, ‘It will be quicker if I do it myself’ or, ‘By the time I have delegated it I could have done most if not all of it’ or, ‘I need to make sure this piece of work is done well, so I’d better do it myself’.
One idea to help with these blocks to delegating is to delegate early. When a piece of work arrives, assess it and if it can be delegated and it’s appropriate to do so, delegate it early. Don’t hesitate, delegate it!
The more we think about it the more we talk ourselves out of delegating. So the idea is not to delay, just delegate it.
