Stress management courses

Stress management training is very useful in helping people avoid stress, as well as learning how to deal with it when it occurs. Stress management training at work can be easily over looked and only taken seriously when it is too late.

With many roles having flexible job definition boundaries, plus the increase in performance related roles, we are putting ourselves under more stress than ever.

Practical stress management training with strategies and ideas can really help to alleviate and avoid stress.

Stress management training in 2015

Stress management training needs to be related to the roles of the participants, as stress has different sources and can occur in a wide variety of circumstances. Stress related to people management has different sources from stress related to high pressure jobs, or high responsibility. There is often a requirement to train staff on stress management as part of organisations’ employment and HR responisbilities.

Stress management training with ITD

Stress management training with ITD is very practical and gives participants the background knowledge to understand what stress is, where stress comes from and how we can try to avoid stress as well as combat it.

We have been designing and delivering stress management training for years, and for a wide variety of roles. We make our training as role specific as possible, so that participants have the best chance of implementing their actions after the session.

Our training is more workshop style than course, in that it is interactive and encourages the participants to discuss their situations and create new actions.

Typical challenges of participants on our stress management training.

  • “I get to work really wound up by the journey as other drivers can be so inconsiderate.”
  • “I am under a lot of pressure to perform from my boss.”
  • “We want to buy a new home and this has added to the pressure I’m under.”
  • “We’ve just received our targets for the year and they are really stretching.”
  • “I have taken on a new team to manage there are some real challenges in there.”

How will we tailor our stress management training to your needs?

1. We will discuss with you the objectives and desired outputs you have for the training.

2. We will then design a training agenda and style of session which will fulfil your needs.

3. We design scenarios and activities which will mirror those of your people so that the training is exactly relevant to their roles.

Stress management training – case study

Secretarial Managers in a UK law firm.

Background

The Managers of the secretarial teams are required to oversee efficiency and productivity. The secretaries work in an environment which can be highly pressurised with heavy workloads and demanding clients. Their Managers need to ensure this stress is managed properly.

Need

The Managers need to manage their own stress, that of their teams and help colleagues. They required practical tips and ideas to help with everyday situations, but also a little theory to give the ideas context.

Activity

We developed a half day workshop designed around the specific needs of these Managers. There was a blend of discussion,  introducing models and frameworks.

  • What is stress and how does it manifest itself in the firm?
  • Identifying stress in lawyers and colleagues.
  • Why is it important to manage and alleviate stress.
  • Spotting the early signs of stress.
  • Managing stressors in workload.
  • Managing stressors in interpersonal relationships.
  • Other training which can have an impact on stress.
  • Personal actions.

Sources of stress at work:

  • Challenges with the line manager – this is a huge area for stress and difficulties at work. Even in these enlightened days we still get managers who behave badly and say things which cause great stress for their people.
  • Over worked – Following the recession some organisations have avoided adding headcount to their teams. This has meant existing employees have had additional tasks and responsibilities leading to more work than they can manage and therefore stress.
  • Lack of role clarity – In an increasingly dynamic work environment, role creep occurs. This is where the role increases without any formal recognition. Stress is created by the need to do more in the same amount of time.
  • Personal situation – things that happen at home can have a huge impact at work.
  • New role – Having a new job or new role can cause stress; Insecurity about ones ability to perform a new role; Relationship with new colleagues; Relationship with a new boss; Knowledge deficiencies.
