Hilton training

Virtual Presenting / Pimp My Slides

As more organisations discover the benefits of presenting virtually to international offices, the skills required to do this well are in focus.

Background

When Conrad Hilton opened the first hotel to bear the Hilton name in 1925, he aimed to operate the best hotel in Texas. As a result of his commitment, leadership, and innovation, today Hilton is one of the most respected brands in the world. With more than one million rooms, 18 brands, in 122 countries, 7,000 properties worldwide, they are one of the largest hospitality companies in the world.

Need

The need for training on Presenting Virtually / Pimp My Slides, has been identified to support the Brand Performance Support Team.

The team is made up of up to 20 people including two senior managers, with executives and interns.

In supporting brands, the team works in one to one consultations or with groups. They help with a variety of situations and objectives. The overall aim is to help brands use a resource, or system to make life easier.

The team is used to presenting virtually and has received training in communicating. The need to is to develop their impact. This could be in presenting slides or data.

It is easy to assume that presenting virtually is a simple extension of presenting when in the same room. But many organisations have recognised that this is not the case.

The specific skills required in communicating virtually need to be reviewed and practised. This includes skills of designing a presentation, in using the technology as well as behaviours in presenting and engaging with the audience, such as the use of voice and intonation.

Activity

This proposal is to design and deliver a two-part training programme, part live and part virtual, on Presenting Virtually / Pimp My Slides with the desired outcomes including:

  1. Raising the participants’ awareness of how to add impact to a presentation in design and delivery.
  2. Adapting the content to suit the needs of the audience to add impact.

Part 1 – one group – to cover ideas on how to develop impact in design and delivery of virtual presentations.

Part 2 – two groups – to practice and receive coaching on delivering an impactful virtual presentation.

Outcomes

This training covered both part of training, learning ideas and practising them. It also sued in-person interaction and virtual. For these reasons the sessions were very impactful.

Each participant considered their specific actions to implement.
