Background

Since March 2020 many people working for the University have been required to work remotely and communicate virtually. Professional communication is necessary to project the University’s brand values and those of each individual.

Need

The specific need was for each person to review their virtual presentation skills and explore ways to improve their approach.

Activity

We designed a three hour virtual training session for eight participants.

The agenda included:

  • Challenges of presenting virtually and how to address some of these challenges.
  • The importance of Voice in presenting virtually. How to get the best from your voice.
  • Ideas on how to improve your Video, including lighting, postitioning, body language and eye contact.
  • Slide design and content to keep people’s attention in the virtual world.
  • How to get and keep people engaged in virtual presentations.

Outcomes

The session was a lively debate of ideas and thier application. Time was allocated to practicing the ideas introduced and discussing their application.

Each person left with a number of actions to put into their day to day work.
