Personal Efficiency Coaching

Personal efficiency coaching is an effective approach to help an individual develop their effective use of time. Personal efficiency can be seen as advanced time management and assumes that the participant knows and has tried at least some ideas of to self organise.

Background

The European Stability Mechanism (ESM) is an intergovernmental organization located in Luxembourg City, which operates under public international law for all eurozone member states having ratified a special ESM intergovernmental treaty.

The ESM’s mission is to enable the countries of the euro area to avoid and overcome financial crises and to maintain long-term financial stability and prosperity. ESM can provide financial assistance to euro area countries experiencing or threatened by severe financing problems. This assistance is granted only if it is proven necessary to safeguard the financial stability of the euro area as a whole and of ESM Members.

For this, the ESM counts on several instruments. The ESM can grant a loan as part of a macroeconomic adjustment programme, such as the one that was already used by Cyprus and Greece. Ireland, Greece, and Portugal have used similar programmes delivered by the EFSF. The only other instrument used was an ESM loan to recapitalise banks which was provided to Spain.

Need

The specific needs for this intervention was to provide an individual with strategies and ideas for developing their approach to work. The key to this was working out how to implement actions and overcoming barriers.

We all have actions we know we should do, but we find it difficult to put them into practise. This approach uses behavioural change science to frame actions in order to give the participants the bets possible chance of success.

Activity

Each session introduced ideas and strategies that would give food for thought on how to approach personal efficiency.

  • Personal challenges.
  • Exploring the causes of these challenges.
  • Personality at work – the impact of work styles on personal efficiency.
  • Procrastination – why we do this and how we can overcome.
  • Implementing behavioural change.
  • Why we find it difficult to implement actions we want to do. The New Year’s Resolution effect.
